Paper Network – visualization of the research publications
We design our application as a response to common problems of students that start their research. We believe that current methods of knowledge discovery are not suitable for their needs. So far, the main method of accessing repositories of scientific documents is keyword based search. Proposed application is accessed through the search interface and can be considered as a supplement of the typical, linear text based relevance ranking of search results. A student who is just starting to build the knowledge model of a research area is flooded with a set of documents which happen to match the keywords in a query. Our visualization tool allows the user to find the points of reference of documents in the search list and at the same time gives him/her a chance to explore documents from interesting sub-areas or access the most influential papers in the field.
